Base Image Script Framework (BIS-F) – Version 6.0.0

the perfect way to seal your Base Image

Every time you build you’re base Image from scratch or update it, you must seal it before deploying it to your cloned devices. No matter if you are using Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop with Machine Creation Services (MCS) or Provisioning Services (PVS), VMware View or Microsoft only, BIS-F supports it all. Optimize your base Image before deployment, delete unique identifiers to prevent duplicate/ghost entries on your management server (Anti-Virus, SCCM, SCOM, etc.…), delete junk files, defrag your disk etc. All these necessary steps and much more has to be run manually, but here is a better way. Here’s the right tool for the job.

Context awareness is important for your business!

Posted by Sascha Goeckel on Nov 7, 2016 2:31:27 PM

Let’s make one thing clear; context awareness is one of the most important topics in the IT landscape today. Without context awareness, IT departments cannot fulfill the requirements of their customers (means users) and the security and compliance requirements of their business. Not considering this fact may result in a disadvantage over the competition and in worst case it costs the business money.

Office365 on a non-persistent Citrix Desktop? FSLogix does that for you!

Posted by Christiaan Brinkhoff on Oct 17, 2016 3:07:05 PM

One problem that caused me a little headache for some days where the corrupted OST files of a customer of mine that uses Office365 / Exchange Online on top of a non-persistent (MCS) XenApp Desktop environment. One of my earlier challenges were to level the old performance with the performance they used to have before with the on-premises Exchange 2010 mail server setup. As you probably know already, Office365 is cloud based, what makes the client performance depending on the internet connection instead on the LAN, and Outlook Cache Mode a required then recommended option to configure.

My Take on Microsoft’s Announcement to Retire Azure RemoteApp

Posted by Benny Tritsch on Aug 19, 2016 9:46:54 AM

On Friday, August 12, 2016, Microsoft made the announcement that they are planning to retire Azure RemoteApp (ARA). According to the article, Microsoft and Citrix are jointly developing a new cloud-based solution for delivering Windows apps. This Azure RemoteApp 2.0 service was referred to as XenApp “express”. Only minutes after the Microsoft announcement, Citrix posted a related article on their blog. Now, after the dust has slowly settled, I wanted to share my thoughts on the announcement.

Office 365 - How Difficult it is to Make it Look This Easy

Posted by Kevin Goodman on Aug 16, 2016 9:51:27 AM

“You don’t know how difficult it is to make it look this easy.”

We’ve been very pleased with the response to our Office 365 containers. Office 365 is Microsoft’s fastest growing product ever. Office 365 is on a $4.4B run-rate and 70% of Fortune 500 companies have purchased Office 365 in the last 12 months (source:Microsoft).

But, did you know that without FSLogix, the Office 365 suite doesn’t roam correctly in XenApp and XenDesktop non-persistent? You read that right: By default, Outlook and OneDrive for Business do not roam correctly. OneDrive for Business is not supported in RDSH / XenApp environments and Outlook if it is in Cached Exchange Mode has issues in both RDSH / XenApp and non-persistent XenDesktop. (Check out this MS-Ignite session discussing this issue and recommending FSLogix)

Outlook in cached mode with non-persistent VDI seemed like a pipe dream until FSLogix came along.

In his latest op-ed on brianmadden.com, Independent Industry Analyst, Gabe Knuth, documents the evolutionary changes that have taken place with FSLogix since his previous article, regarding FSLogix Profile Containers. However, the underlying motivation for this article and the prime focus, rests with FSLogix Office 365 Container for Citrix, which he cites as "...a no-brainer to enable functionality that we’ve wanted for the last fifteen years."

By capturing the technological essence of FSLogix, Gabe is able to provide a very thorough accounting of the key aspects and advantages of our methodology, along with the positive impact it has on one's infrastructural hardware and performance.

PQR UEM Comparison White Paper Excerpt

Posted by Brandon Lee on Jun 15, 2016 11:45:02 AM

The PQR team released their latest User Environment Management (UEM) comparison white paper v16.03, formerly known as the UEM Smackdown.

"...I got questions from people not familiar with the smackdown what it is, the name is not something native English people would use. In English a comparison white paper with a winner is a bake-off. This white paper doesn’t bring out a winner so a bake-off was the wrong word as well. The white paper compares User Environment Management solutions to each other and therefore it is a comparisons white paper." -Rob Beekmans

Below is an excerpt from that white paper, courtesy of Rob Beekman and the PQR team. Updated May 25 2016.

Microsoft Using Citrix XenDesktop to Deliver Remote Windows 10 Desktops from Azure

Posted by Benny Tritsch on May 31, 2016 2:38:29 PM

During his Synergy opening keynote on Tuesday, Citrix CEO Kirill Tatarinov made a spectacular announcement: As part of the refreshed Citrix and Microsoft partnership, XenDesktop VDI hosted on Azure will deliver remote Windows 10 desktops from the cloud. To be very clear, Kirill was not speaking about a Windows Server desktop that pretends to be Windows 10. He was talking about the “real thing”. The days of #FixVDA (= broken virtual desktop access licensing) will be gone as soon as this service is available. This is an event the entire RDS and VDI industry has been waiting for. And here are some more details.
