Is MSIX the future for App-V?

Posted by Tim Mangan on Jun 12, 2018 10:33:23 AM

At the Windows Developer Conference this March, Microsoft announced MSIX as their latest idea of the future for application delivery.  This followed with more details released at the Microsoft Build Conference in May. I applaud these efforts by Microsoft; they follow the call I made last year for the development of a new standard application format that meets both the needs of the developers and of IT Professionals that deal with them. In this post, I’ll explain what I know about MSIX, both the good and the less then perfect, and what I am looking for to determine if MSIX will be the true successor to App-V.

Gabe Knuth: Why I joined FSLogix

Posted by Gabe Knuth on Feb 1, 2018 9:09:03 AM

Sometimes life gives you an opportunity that you can't pass up, and I've been fortunate to have a few of those occasions in my career. The first was a random encounter with Brian Madden when we both worked at a reseller in Cleveland, OH, who said he was off to do a proof of concept for this thing called "MetaFrame" and asked if I wanted to come along. I'd been a desktop support engineer for a year or so, but had just been promoted to "server guy" after getting my CNA (it was the 90's!). I'd only been in the new role for a week or two when I learned about MetaFrame, but that one proof of concept shaped my entire career, and I was immediately pulled back towards desktops.

Posted by Rory Monaghan on Jan 3, 2018 12:14:33 PM

My name is Rory Monaghan and I've been working as an application packager for over 10 years.

Working in such a specialized role can be very challenging. My first few years were pretty good. I would get a mix of applications to work on ranging from simple to medium to complex. It was pretty enjoyable learning how to package. Out of necessity, you become very well versed with the Windows OS.

Base Image Script Framework (BIS-F) – Version 6.0.0

the perfect way to seal your Base Image

Every time you build you’re base Image from scratch or update it, you must seal it before deploying it to your cloned devices. No matter if you are using Citrix XenApp/XenDesktop with Machine Creation Services (MCS) or Provisioning Services (PVS), VMware View or Microsoft only, BIS-F supports it all. Optimize your base Image before deployment, delete unique identifiers to prevent duplicate/ghost entries on your management server (Anti-Virus, SCCM, SCOM, etc.…), delete junk files, defrag your disk etc. All these necessary steps and much more has to be run manually, but here is a better way. Here’s the right tool for the job.
