Opinion: The Changing Landscape of Enterprise Application Management

Posted by Rory Monaghan on Feb 7, 2017 9:54:46 AM

I'm usually not one for posting blogs on [rorymon.com] in reaction to public announcements BUT I’ll make an exception for a couple that occurred in the first two weeks of this year. First, on the 2nd of January, Symantec put out a release to state that their Workspace Virtualization product is now End Of Life. Second is the announcement out of Citrix Summit that Citrix acquired Unidesk. These announcements warrant a post in my opinion because to me it highlights a major shift in the application virtualization and application delivery space.

Context awareness is important for your business!

Posted by Sascha Goeckel on Nov 7, 2016 2:31:27 PM

Let’s make one thing clear; context awareness is one of the most important topics in the IT landscape today. Without context awareness, IT departments cannot fulfill the requirements of their customers (means users) and the security and compliance requirements of their business. Not considering this fact may result in a disadvantage over the competition and in worst case it costs the business money.

Fare thee well, Brian Madden

Posted by Kevin Goodman on Jul 1, 2016 4:59:40 PM

I saw where Brian announced his retirement yesterday on http://www.brianmadden.com/opinion/Brian-is-leaving-BrianMaddencom-BriForum-2016-Boston-will-be-the-last-one and although  I am not surprised, I can’t help but reflect on the impact Brian has had on our industry. I say I am not surprised because Brian has been giving us hints over the last year: His closing session at the Denver Briforum last year and his podcast retrospective on his career.

On this episode of FrontLine Chatter, FSLogix CEO Kevin Goodman joins Jarian Gibson and Andrew Morgan for a discussion about FSLogix's Flux Project and Citrix Synergy updates.

"With [FSLogix] generic containers what you're doing is, and a combination of your search features as well, you're going to allow [users] to have instant access to those files, indexing, searching, and everything on demand. So I think it's a real game changer...Kudos to you and I'm really looking forward to what you're doing next." -Andrew Morgan

Posted by Brandon Lee on Jun 16, 2016 9:55:11 AM

A headline for a blogspot, on Citrix blogs about XenApp best practices reads, "XenApp Best Practices #1: For the best user experience, application and backend data must reside together on a fast, low latency network."

How do we achieve this best practice when all of our apps and backend data are potentially distributed all over the globe?

Marius Sandbu, Citrix CTA, Azure MVP, vExpert suggests a compromise to achieve the best user experience.

Why?

"Because that should be our end goalDeliver the best user experience." -Marius Sandbu

PQR UEM Comparison White Paper Excerpt

Posted by Brandon Lee on Jun 15, 2016 11:45:02 AM

The PQR team released their latest User Environment Management (UEM) comparison white paper v16.03, formerly known as the UEM Smackdown.

"...I got questions from people not familiar with the smackdown what it is, the name is not something native English people would use. In English a comparison white paper with a winner is a bake-off. This white paper doesn’t bring out a winner so a bake-off was the wrong word as well. The white paper compares User Environment Management solutions to each other and therefore it is a comparisons white paper." -Rob Beekmans

Below is an excerpt from that white paper, courtesy of Rob Beekman and the PQR team. Updated May 25 2016.

Microsoft Using Citrix XenDesktop to Deliver Remote Windows 10 Desktops from Azure

Posted by Benny Tritsch on May 31, 2016 2:38:29 PM

During his Synergy opening keynote on Tuesday, Citrix CEO Kirill Tatarinov made a spectacular announcement: As part of the refreshed Citrix and Microsoft partnership, XenDesktop VDI hosted on Azure will deliver remote Windows 10 desktops from the cloud. To be very clear, Kirill was not speaking about a Windows Server desktop that pretends to be Windows 10. He was talking about the “real thing”. The days of #FixVDA (= broken virtual desktop access licensing) will be gone as soon as this service is available. This is an event the entire RDS and VDI industry has been waiting for. And here are some more details.
