Office 365 - How Difficult it is to Make it Look This Easy

Posted by Kevin Goodman on Aug 16, 2016 9:51:27 AM

“You don’t know how difficult it is to make it look this easy.”

We’ve been very pleased with the response to our Office 365 containers. Office 365 is Microsoft’s fastest growing product ever. Office 365 is on a $4.4B run-rate and 70% of Fortune 500 companies have purchased Office 365 in the last 12 months (source:Microsoft).

But, did you know that without FSLogix, the Office 365 suite doesn’t roam correctly in XenApp and XenDesktop non-persistent? You read that right: By default, Outlook and OneDrive for Business do not roam correctly. OneDrive for Business is not supported in RDSH / XenApp environments and Outlook if it is in Cached Exchange Mode has issues in both RDSH / XenApp and non-persistent XenDesktop. (Check out this MS-Ignite session discussing this issue and recommending FSLogix)

Are Some XenApp Best Practices Still True?

Posted by Brandon Lee on Jun 16, 2016 9:55:11 AM

A headline for a blogspot, on Citrix blogs about XenApp best practices reads, "XenApp Best Practices #1: For the best user experience, application and backend data must reside together on a fast, low latency network."

How do we achieve this best practice when all of our apps and backend data are potentially distributed all over the globe?

Marius Sandbu, Citrix CTA, Azure MVP, vExpert suggests a compromise to achieve the best user experience.

Why?

"Because that should be our end goalDeliver the best user experience." -Marius Sandbu

PQR UEM Comparison White Paper Excerpt

Posted by Brandon Lee on Jun 15, 2016 11:45:02 AM

The PQR team released their latest User Environment Management (UEM) comparison white paper v16.03, formerly known as the UEM Smackdown.

"...I got questions from people not familiar with the smackdown what it is, the name is not something native English people would use. In English a comparison white paper with a winner is a bake-off. This white paper doesn’t bring out a winner so a bake-off was the wrong word as well. The white paper compares User Environment Management solutions to each other and therefore it is a comparisons white paper." -Rob Beekmans

Below is an excerpt from that white paper, courtesy of Rob Beekman and the PQR team. Updated May 25 2016.

Graphics and Multimedia System Tools

Posted by Benny Tritsch on Aug 2, 2015 4:05:00 PM

Last week I presented a 75-minute breakout session titled “Computer Graphics and Multimedia: A Survival Guide for IT Pros” at BriForum in Denver. In essence, my session covered an introduction of the most common application programming interfaces (APIs) and file formats commonly used for graphics and multimedia: GDI, DirectX, WPF, OpenGL, AV, Silverlight, Flash and HTML5. Some attendees asked me if I can provide the list of tools I demonstrated during my session.

Here are the tools I like to use when analyzing and testing virtual desktops and remote user sessions:

Managing your Azure RemoteApp application landscape using FSLogix Apps

Posted by Freek Berson on Jun 29, 2015 5:15:00 PM

INTRODUCTION

Microsoft Azure RemoteApp is all about delivering your Win32 legacy applications from the cloud to any device, any location, at any time. While RemoteApp technology itself is not new and has been shipping since Windows Server 2008, Azure, however, makes it a truly turnkey, and as a Service, solution. Basically you   bring your applications   and your identities, and Azure RemoteApp provides you with a GUI inside the Azure Portal to configure the delivery of those applications, including  PowerShell support.

RDS and VDI News from Microsoft Ignite 2015

Posted by Benny Tritsch on May 26, 2015 5:22:32 PM

I’m at BriForum in London this week, meeting with many of my community fellows. One of the topics we keep discussing is the lessons learned at Microsoft Ignite two weeks ago. What a show that was! 23,000 people attended Ignite and most of them wanted to hear about the upcoming products and see how this Microsoft 2.0 looks like. Combining multiple events, such as TechEd and MMS, seemed to be a good idea for many IT professionals, despite the fact that Microsoft decided to miss out Europe – Ignite is a US-only event. Microsoft must have been surprised by the number of registrations as logistics were far from being perfect. Sometimes transportation, catering and room capacity for popular sessions clearly showed some room for improvement for next year. But I cannot complain, together with co-speaker Ruben Spruijt I was invited as a featured speaker and the Ignite organizers gave us a great room for our session about virtual desktops. According to Microsoft, remoting into Windows workloads is an important aspect of their mobility strategy now. This means that RDS and VDI were presented from different angles and were even covered in sessions where you wouldn’t expect it.
