Use OneDrive Client on RDSH or XenApp with FSLogix and PowerShell (IWC/ROW Building Block included)

Posted by Chris Twiest on Jun 19, 2018 11:25:43 AM

You might notice there is no OneDrive client in Windows Server 2016. After installing Office ProPlus, you do get the OneDrive for Business client but that client isn’t as feature rich as the normal OneDrive client. But luckily we can download the normal OneDrive client from Microsoft website here. Now we run into the next problem; the OneDrive client will install itself into the user profile and not like any normal program into “C:\Program Files”. So, to use the OneDrive Client on Windows Server 2016 we need to solve a few problems first:

  • Install OneDrive for every user who signs into the system once.
  • Check if the installation is already present and start up the client.
  • Capture the installation of OneDrive and add the files in OneDrive to the profile.
  • Stop asking for password to the user every time they sign in.
  • Integration with Windows Explorer.
  • Choose what to sync to the system from OneDrive if needed.

Citrix announced Office 365 support in UPM/WEM. How does that affect you?

Posted by Gabe Knuth on May 18, 2018 11:33:20 AM

Last week at Synergy, Citrix announced support for Office 365 cache data in their Profile Management and WEM products, and more than a few people showed up at our booth and asked what it meant for us. Since so many attendees had questions about it, we figured it was worth writing a blog post so that people who weren’t at Synergy know what’s up, too.

Introducing Cloud Cache

Posted by Gabe Knuth on May 2, 2018 8:07:14 AM

One of the reasons I joined FSLogix was because of their roadmap, so I’m very excited to be here while we launch what I think is one of the most useful products I’ve ever seen: Cloud Cache. For FSLogix, Cloud Cache is the result of thousands of development hours building, from the ground up, a technology that satisfies our customers’ requests while at the same time adding unprecedented new features and immediate value for any company that’s using Windows desktops today.

How to use FSLogix Office 365 Containers with Ivanti/RES ONE Workspace

Posted by Brandon Lee on Dec 5, 2017 12:17:14 PM

In today's modern workspace we're seeing a shift towards running non-persistent environments. Devices run from a single Golden Image and user data is saved in roaming, streamed, or hybrid profiles. This has a lot of benefits, but it comes with a big drawback in managing the Microsoft Office 365 cache. In Chris Twiest's latest blog, Why you should use FSLogix Office 365 Containers and how to use them with Ivanti/RES ONE Workspace, he explains what the problems are, how FSLogix Office 365 Container solves them and how to integrate the solution into your Ivanti / RES ONE Workspace environment.

With news of change at Citrix with a new CEO, I figured a reflection on 2017 for the company so far is timely.

How to Roam your OneDrive data with FSLogix, based on a non-persistent Citrix XenApp desktop

Posted by Christiaan Brinkhoff on Apr 18, 2017 12:23:17 PM

I’ve written about the FSLogix Container solution in the past. About 6 months ago, I wrote an article about FSLogix named - Office365 on a non-persistent Citrix Desktop – where I describe how you can implement FSLogix on a Citrix XenApp (RDSH) non-persistent environment for making use of Office365 - Exchange Online / Cache Mode functionality. At that moment of writing, the OneDrive Container feature was still under development/investigation - but that changed last month – I’ve tested the today's latest FSLogix version 2.8 successfully, including the caching of all my OneDrive files!

FSLogix Apps 2.8 - Roam XenApp Email Search and OneDrive

Posted by Brandon Lee on Mar 28, 2017 11:15:53 AM

With the official release of FSLogix Apps 2.8, FSLogix Office 365 Container for Citrix can now roam all XenApp email search, including gmail, outlook, and other email clients. Note that this is not limited to just XenApp, but will work on multi user mode environments (MUM) as well, such as standard RDS. The entire OneDrive for Business App can now be roamed in an ODFC container. The key takeaway here is that the entire OneDrive for Business App can be roamed without any external profile management requirements. Meaning, an adminstrator no longer has to struggle to figure out how to roam user info and can just hit the big easy button to roam OneDrive because FSLogix can seamlessly roam both the app and user data!

How to Roam OneDrive using FSLogix Office 365 Container

Posted by Brandon Lee on Feb 14, 2017 4:08:22 PM

Rene Bigler takes a look at how FSLogix Office 365 Containers are able to bridge the gap to allow OneDrive users the ability to roam their data in non-persistent VDI deployments. Rene asserts that, "until now there was no solution to persist synced data from consumer OneDrive for Business (the OneDrive part in Office 365). For this reason most admins decided to disable the OneDrive for Business clients on non-persistent VDI. End users only could work with the online data accessed through their browser or Office Apps connected to the online OneDrive repository."

Are Some XenApp Best Practices Still True?

Posted by Brandon Lee on Jun 16, 2016 9:55:11 AM

A headline for a blogspot, on Citrix blogs about XenApp best practices reads, "XenApp Best Practices #1: For the best user experience, application and backend data must reside together on a fast, low latency network."

How do we achieve this best practice when all of our apps and backend data are potentially distributed all over the globe?

Marius Sandbu, Citrix CTA, Azure MVP, vExpert suggests a compromise to achieve the best user experience.

Why?

"Because that should be our end goalDeliver the best user experience." -Marius Sandbu
