How to use FSLogix Office 365 Containers with Ivanti/RES ONE Workspace

Posted by Brandon Lee on Dec 5, 2017 12:17:14 PM

In today's modern workspace we're seeing a shift towards running non-persistent environments. Devices run from a single Golden Image and user data is saved in roaming, streamed, or hybrid profiles. This has a lot of benefits, but it comes with a big drawback in managing the Microsoft Office 365 cache. In Chris Twiest's latest blog, Why you should use FSLogix Office 365 Containers and how to use them with Ivanti/RES ONE Workspace, he explains what the problems are, how FSLogix Office 365 Container solves them and how to integrate the solution into your Ivanti / RES ONE Workspace environment.

How to mix FSLogix Office 365 Containers and Online Mode in non-persistent Citrix Environments

Posted by Brandon Lee on Nov 30, 2017 4:05:21 PM

Sometimes it makes sense to use online mode in non-persistent Citrix environments. In James Kindon's latest article, FSLogix or Office Online - Selective use in Non Peristent Environments, he breaks down the considerations of catering for environments where some need profile containers and Cached Exchange Mode, while online mode should suffice for the rest. He specified three easy to drive technologies to achieve this goal.

  • AppLocker
  • Restricted Groups
  • Citrix Workspace Environment Management

How to: Setup ADConnect and Add Domain in Azure

Posted by Rory Monaghan on Nov 27, 2017 10:53:16 AM

Disclaimer: My experience with Azure, AWS and pretty much every cloud hosted service thus far tells me this post could become dated very quickly so this post should serve simply as a moment in time brain dump.

When rebuilding my homelab environment recently, I went through these steps again and thought others may find it useful so I documented to share my steps. In my scenario, I have MSDN credits for Azure, I opted not to use Active Directory Federation Services, if implanting for an organization, you may want to do that. I just wanted to sync my on premises active directory users and groups into Azure and use my existing domain. The steps were very easy.

Profile management – Part 3

Posted by Martin Therkelsen on Sep 6, 2017 1:52:02 PM

Hi all,

In this part, I will test the three different solutions I covered in the first two parts of the blog series. The tests will be performance tests, but I will also cover what the profiles contain of information. I will also show you the configuration I have used for each solution so you can do your own tests if you want to. Before I get into the details I want to thank FSLogix and LoginVSI for their help and support with these tests and ControlUp for their free tool called App Profiler.

Using FSLogix Office 365 Container for Outlook Search in Non-Persistent RDS Environments

Posted by Benny Tritsch on Sep 6, 2017 1:41:40 PM

When Outlook is running in cached Exchange mode, Outlook data is stored in user-specific .OST files. These .OST files must follow the users as they roam from host to host. Windows Search Service indexes locally stored .OST files and creates an index catalog for each user to enable search functionality in Outlook. In non-persistent and load-balanced Remote Desktop Service environments, the index catalog doesn’t roam with user data. As a consequence, the index catalog must be rebuilt every time the user logs in and the Connection Broker send him or her to a new pooled desktop or a different RD Session Host within a Collection. FSLogix’s Office 365 Container was designed to solve this issue by roaming a user’s Outlook data as well as their search index catalog in such a way that it is compatible to the Windows Search Service. The FSLogix O365 Container implementation is based on a file system filter driver that redirects the users’ .OST files to virtual disks attached to the local file system in such a way that makes the VHDs look like local folders. This enables users to use the local Windows Search service in Outlook while they are accessing their emails. But how good is this solution in terms of performance and end user experience? The folks from RDS Gurus have the answer.

RDS Gurus Benchmark and Analyze Outlook Performance in Non-Persistent Environments

Posted by Brandon Lee on Aug 22, 2017 1:50:30 PM

In the latest installment from RDS Gurus, Outlook Performance in Non-Persistent Environments Using FSLogix's Office 365 Containers, they ran  performance tests on Outlook in non-persistent environments using FSLogix’s Office 365 Containers solution. The goal was to illustrate the user experience of remote desktop users working in an RDS environment configured to use FSLogix Office 365 Containers relative to the typical user experience when using native RDS UPD technology. The primary focus was to measure how performance degrades when multiple users are simultaneously working with Outlook (“noisy neighbor effect”).
