Citrix App Layering

Posted by Rory Monaghan on Jul 18, 2017 1:04:56 PM

Over the years, I have posted quite a lot of content about Unidesk, which you can read HERE. While I did try out Unidesk with 2.x, they really piqued my interest with the 3.x release which supported Hyper-V and Remote Desktop Services. You see, RDS is a real pain in the ass when trying to manage it at any sort of scale. The Server Manager’s built-in consoles for managing desktops and users in RDS, simply are not fit for purpose. Unidesk however, was an excellent compliment for RDS. You could quickly and easily filter your virtual desktops, edit\manage multiple at once and of course it also made image and application management super simple!

Benny Tritsch: Why I became an investor and team member of FSLogix

Posted by Benny Tritsch on Jul 5, 2017 8:15:31 AM

Here's my little story of becoming an FSLogix investor earlier this year. Many of you may know me as a subject matter expert in Windows desktop remoting and enterprise application delivery. The Frankfurt Rhine/Main area is my home base, with the largest German cloud datacenters almost in my backyard. I enjoy sharing my knowledge through books, blog articles and presentations at industry events. As a result, Microsoft, Citrix, VMware and NVIDIA have recognized me as a member of their respective technical community award programs. Since launching my first technology startup when I was a university student, I've always been watching the international startup ecosystem very carefully. After eight years as a full-time researcher at the Fraunhofer Institute for Computer Graphics, I've had the opportunity to be in leading positions at several international startups over the last 15 years, including my own. I've learned that equity investments, where the funders get a piece of the company, are a great way of directly participating in startups at an early stage. And this is exactly where FSLogix comes into the picture.

Posted by Rory Monaghan on Jun 26, 2017 11:37:55 AM

As we all know, sequencing Internet Explorer is not supported but you can sequence IE plugins and other settings required by web apps and simply create a shortcut pointing to the locally installed Internet Explorer.

Posted by Freek Berson on Jun 23, 2017 11:32:18 AM

Last week, right after Citrix Synergy, Alex Cooper hosted yet another awesome edition of the Experts 2 Experts Virtualization conference (E2EVC) in Orlando, Florida! If you’re not familiar with the event, please check out e2evc.com. It’s a vendor neutral, virtualization conference focusing on all that is related to End User Computing covering topics like RDS, VDI, RemoteApp, Application Virtualization and munch more. Sessions are presented by the community, and because of the vendor neutral approach, you’ll see a good mix of sessions related to Microsoft, Citrix, VMWare, Parallels and many other products as well.

Technical Review: Deep Citrix Monitoring and Troubleshooting with Goliath

Posted by Rory Monaghan on Jun 20, 2017 11:56:43 AM

Recently I published a blog post titled: Citrix is Slow, Or is it Really? In that article I briefly mentioned using a product such as Goliath Performance Monitor. If you have XenApp or XenDesktop 7.x in your environment, you may rely on Citrix Director for monitoring and troubleshooting. If so, I’m sorry for you. It has been my experience that Director can miss quite a lot. At least in version 7.9 and earlier, which is what I have used the most. If I could put a value on the time I have spent over the last 6 months alone troubleshooting slowness issues which Director couldn’t help with, it would likely pay for a good monitoring product such as this two times over!

How to Roam your OneDrive data with FSLogix, based on a non-persistent Citrix XenApp desktop

Posted by Christiaan Brinkhoff on Apr 18, 2017 12:23:17 PM

I’ve written about the FSLogix Container solution in the past. About 6 months ago, I wrote an article about FSLogix named - Office365 on a non-persistent Citrix Desktop – where I describe how you can implement FSLogix on a Citrix XenApp (RDSH) non-persistent environment for making use of Office365 - Exchange Online / Cache Mode functionality. At that moment of writing, the OneDrive Container feature was still under development/investigation - but that changed last month – I’ve tested the today's latest FSLogix version 2.8 successfully, including the caching of all my OneDrive files!

Raspberry Pi Zero W – $10 Citrix endpoint, maybe

Posted by Nic Burkinshaw on Mar 2, 2017 12:19:27 PM

I received an email from The PiHut on Tuesday, ordered a Raspberry Pi Zero W and case. It arrived two days later – the case, for £6, is impressive; 1 base and 3 lids – one plain, one for camera and one for GPIO access. Note that the case also came with the short ribbon cable required to connect the standard Raspberry Pi camera.

Opinion: The Changing Landscape of Enterprise Application Management

Posted by Rory Monaghan on Feb 7, 2017 9:54:46 AM

I'm usually not one for posting blogs on [rorymon.com] in reaction to public announcements BUT I’ll make an exception for a couple that occurred in the first two weeks of this year. First, on the 2nd of January, Symantec put out a release to state that their Workspace Virtualization product is now End Of Life. Second is the announcement out of Citrix Summit that Citrix acquired Unidesk. These announcements warrant a post in my opinion because to me it highlights a major shift in the application virtualization and application delivery space.
